They remind me that our brokenness can hold living water. 🌊

“Maybe your wound is a well.”

A wound can feel like hollowing, like someone carved out a piece of your identity and left you with an emptiness that’s hard to refill.

In grief, that hollow is sharp. It aches when you wake, it throbs when you try to picture a future, it whispers lies about your worth and your ability to keep going.

But what if the hollow isn’t just emptiness? What if it’s also space?

Space for His mercy to fill.
Space for God’s presence to pool.
Space for His Spirit to dwell.

Scripture tells us that God draws near to the brokenhearted. That He binds up wounds. That He pours Himself out like living water.

Which makes me wonder: Could the very hollowing that I resent be the very space He longs to fill?

Because wells begin as deep cuts in the earth. A slicing into the ground. A breaking open that looks like ruin until water rises.

With Jesus, what once looked like damage can become a source of life… not only for you, but for others who are thirsty.

I think of Paul, who bore wounds in his body from beatings, imprisonments, rejection, loss. And still he wrote about grace abounding, about strength made perfect in weakness.

His wounds became wells, reservoirs of grace and testimony that continue to hydrate us today.

Maybe your wound is not evidence of God’s absence, but of His nearness. Maybe the hollow is not a void, but an opening. Maybe the ache is not the end, but the deep place where His presence settles, where mercy gathers, where living water pools and rises.

Lord, may our wounds be wells that overflow with evidence of Your Presence.
May we trust You with them.
